Biography
Born in Tangier in 1936, he barely attended a Koranic school before doing odd jobs, from fisherman to waiter or porter… He then met Americans whom he eventually followed to their country; he then experienced a difficult return to Morocco.
He began to draw in 1959, then it was the decisive meeting with Jane and Paul Bowles that Mrabet, grateful, will assist until the end of his life in 1999 (Mrabet tells his autobiography in “Look and move on”, Devillez-2000 editions).
Almost illiterate at the beginning, like his alter ego in writing, Mohamed Choukri, art became for him the natural means of expression!
